FOND DU LAC – School's out for local college students, but Fond du Lac's university is already planning for this fall's round of new students.

Marian University student ambassadors and interns just launched a three-part video series showcasing Fond du Lac for incoming students to see the community and prospective students to see what the city has to offer.

The "Welcome to the Sabre Family" series wrapped up its third video Thursday, spearheaded by Admissions Counselor Will Rouech with counselors Maggie Ford, Katrina Pokorny and Dana Oremovich.

While Marian's admissions office releases a video series every summer, Rouech said they wanted to elevate them this year with more fun and better production.

"I came to Marian as a student in 2019, so I wanted to use my new role as a staff to showcase the information that I wanted and needed at that time," he said. "The old summer series focused solely on campus resources, but we decided to include the Fond du Lac videos to highlight all of the benefits that can be found off-campus, too."

For this series, the camera was in the hands of student ambassadors in the admission office: Alex Alonso, Gus Walker, Lauren Heisdorf, McKayla Goebel, Sarah Day, Trinity Grimes and Sydney Schipper, as well as student marketing intern Claire Catrambone. The student ambassadors involved are also athletes at the university.

The first video, published on YouTube May 18, highlights local businesses and other spaces, including Gilles Frozen Custard, Haentze Floral, Bob's Pizza, Blue Line Family Ice Center and Lakeside Park.

The second video continues the tour with La Clare Family Creamery, The Uba, Cellar District, Fresh Fit Cafe, Fond du Lac Public Library and Kelley's Country Creamery, while the final video showcases the farmers' market among even more iconic area spots.

Previously, the Marian University YouTube channel released a video to recruit students from the recently-closed Cardinal Stritch University.

Starting next week, a new series will introduce different campus services, beginning with a news-style update from the financial aid office.

In addition to YouTube, all videos are available on the campus's Facebook and Instagram pages, and students or parents are encouraged to comment on the posts any questions they have.
