Marietta police: Motorist struck 2 construction workers, fled scene

Mar. 13—A motorist struck and seriously injured two construction workers before fleeing the scene Sunday, the Marietta Police Department said.

According to police, the incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. Sunday on Roswell Road, under the Interstate 75 overpass. The workers were setting up a traffic directional board for a lane closure when a gray 2019 Volkswagen Jetta, traveling eastbound, struck the message board and both workers.

The driver of the Volkswagen stopped at the scene before fleeing on foot before first responders arrived, according to police.

The driver has not yet been identified, police said Sunday.

The construction workers, ages 38 and 28, are both from metro Atlanta, police said. They were both taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information about it is asked to contact MPD Officer K. Bedford at 770-794-5364.
