Marion County high school sports schedule, results: Fall sports enter the postseason
Fall sports enters the phase of postseason as bowling, swimming, and cross country join the fray. The volleyball teams from Trinity Catholic, St. John’s Lutheran, and Vanguard all won district championships last week and enter regionals as Top 5 seeds.
Since August, these teams have impressed with their play in the area. Now they’ll face some of the best around the state to see if they can bring home championships.

Volleyball
Tuesday, October 25
Trinity Catholic defeats P.K. Yonge (25-6, 25-10, 25-7)
Takeaways from Tuesday's Win: High school region volleyball: Trinity Catholic ends P.K. Yonge's season with sweep
St. John Lutheran defeats Vero Beach St. Edward's (25-19, 25-19, 25-8)
The Saints sweep the Pirates in a defensive sweep. Both teams played well, but St. John Lutheran outlasted St. Edward's.

Wednesday, October 26
Vanguard defeats Middleburg (25-22, 25-20, 19-25, 25-21)
Emma Ehmann scored a game high 31 kills, two aces, and 12 digs in the Knights' regional quarterfinal win. Fellow senior Sophie Reed recorded a season-high 49 assists, five aces, and eight digs. Aria Eisel had a season-high 28 receives.

Tallahassee Florida High at Trinity Catholic, 7 p.m. Class 3A, Region 1 semifinal
Brevard HEAT at St. John Lutheran, 7 p.m. Class 2A, Region 2 semifinal
Saturday, October 29
Vanguard at Choctawhatchee, 7 p.m. Class 5A. Region 1 semifinal
Bowling
Tuesday, October 25
District 2 Tournament
Marion County bowling teams just missed the cut to play in states. West Port finished third in districts, Forest finished fourth, Vanguard fifth, Belleview sixth, Lake Weir seventh, and Dunnellon eight. On the bright side, West Port senior CC Kinchen and Forest sophomore Madison Roger qualified for the state championship as individuals. They'll be bowling Tuesday at Boardwalk Bowl Entertainment in Orlando.
Boys Cross Country
Wednesday, October 26
3A Region 2 at South County Regional Park
Vanguard takes home a team and individual regional title. Junior Clayton Knight finished 1st in a season-best 16:16.65. Miguel Cruz, 17:36.53, and Matt Lammens, 17:42.59, finished 14th and 16th. Three more Vanguard runners finished in the top 50.
Belleview finished 16th in the region with its top runner, Michael Smothers, finishing 59th in a career-best time of 19:18.09.
Saturday, October 29
Girls Cross Country
Wednesday, October 26
3A Region 2 at South County Regional Park
The Knights finished in third place and qualified for Saturday's state meet. Five Vanguard runners place in the top 35. Freshman Ruby Scott led the way with a ninth place finish with a personal best 20:18.88.
Belleview didn't compete as a team but did have junior Kiley Summerlin running. She placed 16th with a state qualifying time and season-best 20:56.45.

Boys Golf

3A District 2 Tournament
Sophomore Xavier Sahajpal led Forest to a second-place finish at district. Sahajpal shot a team best 74. His teammate, Taylor Galavis, was right behind with a 75. The team scored a 417 to qualify for regionals, which start Monday.
Girls Golf
Tuesday, October 25
3A District 2 Tournament
Forest's team score of 360 placed the Wildcats second in the district tournament. The score and placement earned them a trip to regionals on Tuesday. Sophomore Haley Davis placed second overall with a personal score of 74.
West Port finished in fifth place with a 535 and the Wolf Pack's season is over.
