Marion County restaurant inspections: April critical violations

The Louisiana Department of Health performs regular inspections of restaurants and stores that sell food. These are the local results of those inspections.

The following restaurant inspections with critical violations were conducted by Marion Public Health in April:

Marion General Coffee Shop, 1000 McKinley Park Drive, Marion, April 1. Improper storage of poisonous or toxic materials (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed cleaner being stored improperly during the time of inspection. Person in charge (PIC) moved it to its proper location.

Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken, 571 E. Center St., Marion, April 4. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed no date mark on chicken being held in the cooler. Employee disposed of the chicken.

Dexter's Market, 133 W. Water St., Prospect, April 5. PIC unable to demonstrate knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing (critical repeat). PIC could not explain dishwashing procedure or sanitizer levels. Food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency (critical repeat). PIC could not say how often food equipment surfaces are cleaned and sanitized.

V.F.W. Post #3313, 961 N. Main St., Marion, April 6. Food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed build-up on pizza cooker. PIC made me aware that it is not cleaned at the required frequency. PIC agreed to clean it.

Menards, 2400 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, April 7. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed several dented cans during the time of inspection. PIC had employee remove cans from the shelves.

ALDI Inc. - ALDI Foods #30, 1916 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, April 7. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed several dented cans on the shelves during the time of inspection. PIC had employee remove the cans and throw them away.

1303 N. Main St. Inc., 1303 N. Main St., Marion, April 8. Equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are unclean (critical). PIC indicated that the coffee maker is not being washed rinsed and sanitized at the correct frequency. PIC also does not have sanitizer or testing kit. Missing and/or incomplete allergen declaration(s) (critical). Did not observe allergen declarations for self-service donut station during the time of inspection.

Pop Wylie's Service, 331 N. Main St., Marion, April 8. Package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed two dented cans on the shelf during the time of inspection. PIC removed the cans from the shelf.

Pleasant Elementary School, 1105 Owens Road W, Marion, April 12. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed broccoli in the walk-in cooler with no date mark on it during the time of inspection. PIC placed a date mark on the broccoli.

River Valley Middle School, 4334 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Caledonia, April 13. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed coffee grounds and personal coffee cup in the hand sinks during the time of inspection. PIC removed the personal coffee cup and cleaned the hand sink out.

River Valley High School, 4280 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Caledonia, April 13. The license holder did not demonstrate achieved sanitization while using a solution other than chlorine, quaternary ammonium or iodine (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed sanitizer buckets to not achieve proper concentration of quaternary ammonium sanitizer during the time of inspection. PIC had employee remake the sanitizer bucket so proper level was achieved. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed chicken sitting at room temperature for too long during the time of inspection. PIC discarded the chicken.

Liberty Elementary, 1932 Whetstone River Road N., Caledonia, April 20. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (critical, corrected during inspection). Did not observe an employee sick policy on file during the time of inspection. Gave PIC a health policy before leaving.

Marion Moose Lodge 889, 1300 Delaware Ave., Marion, April 21. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed dented cans in the kitchen intended for use during the time of inspection. PIC removed them. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed spoiled ready-to-eat food in the cooler during the time of inspection. PIC immediately threw the food away.

George Washington Elementary Cafeteria, 400 Pennsylvania Ave., Marion, April 21. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed dented cans that were intended for use during the time of inspection. Employee immediately threw them way.

American Legion Post #584, 142 Olney Ave., Marion, April 28. Quaternary ammonium sanitizing solution at incorrect temperature, concentration, and/or water hardness (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed quaternary ammonium sanitizer solution in three-bay sink behind the bar to be too low during the time of inspection. Bartender remade the sanitizer water with the correct concentration.
