Marion County restaurant inspections: critical violations

The Louisiana Department of Health performs regular inspections of restaurants and stores that sell food. These are the local results of those inspections.

The following restaurant inspections with critical violations were conducted by Marion Public Health between Aug. 17 and Aug. 31:

Country Inn & Suites, 2091 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, Aug. 22. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (critical). Did not observe a signed sick policy on file during the time of inspection. Missing and/or incomplete allergen declaration(s) (critical). Did not observe allergen declarations at bulk food container in the consumer self-service area.

Paradice Cream, 189 Marion St., Waldo, Aug. 24. Food in contact with an unclean surface or linens (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed toppings to be in contact with scoops for toppings. Person in charge (PIC) placed scoops in such a way that they were no longer touching toppings during the time of inspection.

Pettibone's Bar and Grill, 306 S. Marion St., Waldo, Aug. 24. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed ice in the hand sink. Discussed with employee to begin dumping ice and drinks in the three bay sink. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed items in cooler closest to the kitchen door to be held past their disposition date. PIC disposed of items.

Duchess Shoppe Waldo #1235, 262 N. Marion St., Waldo, Aug. 24. Equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are unclean (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed clean bowls in storage to have debris in them during the time of inspection. Equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are unclean (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed pizza tongs for self service being stored in a single-use container. Single use container was not clean to sight and touch and cannot be easily cleaned. PIC removed tongs and discussed placing a hook on pizza hot holding machine so tongs can be stored in a proper manner.

Marion Diner, 1565 Marion-Waldo Road, Marion, Aug. 24. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed eggs in the walk-in cooler to be stored above ready-to-eat food during the time of inspection.

McDonalds Corporation #2984, 1429 Marion-Waldo Road, Marion, Aug. 25. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (critical). Did not observe individual signed sick policies in the facility during the time of inspection. Correct by Sept. 1. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed there to be tomatoes being held past their disposition date in the walk-in cooler. PIC disposed of them during the time of inspection.

Perkins Family Restaurant, 1197 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion, Aug. 26. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Did not observe lids on cooler and freezer items during the time of inspection. Chlorine sanitizing solution at incorrect temperature and/or concentration (critical, corrected during inspection). Did not observe mechanical dishwashing machine to be correctly sanitizing dishes during the time of inspection. PIC said dishes would be hand washed until machine is fixed.

A Taste of Memphis,138 S. Main St., Marion, Aug. 26. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed eggs to be stored above ready-to-eat food in the walk-in cooler. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation (critical). Observed very large crack in hot holding unit door during the time of inspection. Quaternary ammonium sanitizing solution at incorrect temperature, concentration, and/or water hardness (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed three-bay sink to not reach required sanitization levels. Employee prepped new sanitizer water that reached required ppm during the time of inspection.

Kentucky Fried Chicken, 1917 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, Aug. 29. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (critical repeat). Did not observe signed sick policies in the facility during the time of inspection. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed two containers of coleslaw to be held past their disposition date of Aug. 28. PIC disposed of coleslaw. Improper storage of poisonous or toxic materials (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed cleaning agents being stored above flour and seasoning.

Chipotle's Mexican Grill #1422, 135 Edgefield Blvd., Marion, Aug. 29. Quaternary ammonium sanitizing solution at incorrect temperature, concentration, and/or water hardness (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed sanitizer water at manual warewashing sink to not reach required concentration during the time of inspection. PIC asked employee to make new sanitizer water and re-tested.

Aramark At Marion Multi-County Correctional Center, 1514 Victory Road, Marion, Aug. 29. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed a dented can on shelves. PIC removed can during the inspection.

Panera Bread #4779, 1623 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, Aug. 31. Handwashing sink not accessible (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed hand sink in kitchen to be blocked by cart for dishes. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed broccoli in the walk-in cooler to be held past its disposition date. PIC disposed of food during the time of inspection.

Little Caesars #443, 1275 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion, Aug. 31. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed both hand sinks to be used as dump sinks. Spoke with PIC about not allowing this to happen and PIC cleaned sinks during the time of inspection. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed two dented cans and one dented soda bottle during inspection. PIC removed these items from the storage rack and coolers to be marked and discarded. Food contact surfaces not easily cleanable (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed tongs for handling pizza once it is out of the oven to be placed on a rag when not in use. Discussed with PIC that a rag is not a suitable surface to be storing a food contact piece of equipment on. PIC removed rag during the time of inspection.
