Marion County restaurant inspections: Critical violations June 1-15

The Louisiana Department of Health performs regular inspections of restaurants and stores that sell food. These are the local results of those inspections.

The following restaurant inspections with critical violations were conducted by Marion Public Health between June 1 and June 15:

Speedway #9733, 1351 Delaware Ave., Marion, June 1. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (critical repeat). Did not observe signed employee sick policy on file. Gave person in charge (PIC) copy of policy. Will be back on June 6 to ensure it was signed.

Speedway Store # 3619, 800 Bellefontaine Ave., Marion, June 1. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed cookies and sausage to be held past their disposition dates. Employee immediately threw them away.

Meijer #111 (gas station), 2153 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, June 2. Food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency (critical, corrected during inspection). Employee stated the tongs used to remove food from hot holding were only cleaned once a day. Spoke with PIC and employee that the proper cleaning frequency for food-contact utensils is every four hours.

Walmart #1750, 1546 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, June 2. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed spilled tub of ice cream in a hand sink. PIC immediately removed ice-cream and cleaned think thoroughly. Food in contact with an unclean surface or linens (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed handle of scoop to be sitting in food items. PIC immediately removed scoop and properly placed a new one in the food.

Certified Oil Company #289, 976 E Center St., Marion, June 6. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging, and segregation (critical). Observed apples to not be individually wrapped. The license holder did not demonstrate achieved sanitization while using a solution other than chlorine, quaternary ammonium or iodine (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed sanitizer water concentration to be too low. PIC re-made water and got it to the correct concentration. Food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency (critical, corrected during inspection). PIC stated tongs and frosty machine food contact piece were only cleaned once a day. They agreed to begin cleaning them at the required four-hour frequency.

Aramark at Marion Correctional Institution-Camp, 940 Marion Williamsport Road E., Marion, June 8. Equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are unclean (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed food trays to not be properly dried after cleaning. PIC removed trays and had them dried properly.

Marion Correctional Institution-Wander Inn, 940 Marion-Williamsport Road, Marion, June 8. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed food being held past its disposition date. PIC disposed of food immediately.

Rollerama d.b.a. Zoomers Skate Club, 1683 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, June 11. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed rags and dish detergent being stored in the hand sink. PIC removed both and placed them in their proper areas. Handwashing sink not accessible (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed dough press to be blocking the hand sink. PIC moved press to allow access. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed precooked hot dogs from over 24 hours ago being stored as leftovers with no date on them. A standard level three license does not allow facilities to cool down and store leftovers for re-heating. PIC threw hot-dogs away. Working containers of poisonous or toxic materials not properly labeled (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed chemical bottle with no label or common name on it. PIC placed common name on bottle.

Ohio 95 Duchess Shoppe #1216, 1881 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, June 14. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed bread bag sitting in the hand sink. PIC removed item from the sink immediately. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed potato salad and jelly to be held past their disposition date in the prep table cooler. PIC disposed of the items. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed cheese slices in the prep table cooler to not have date marks. PIC disposed of the cheese slices.

Center Street Motomart, 691 W. Center St., Marion, June 14. Food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency (critical, corrected during inspection). Employee stated food contact surface within the flurry machine was only being washed once a day. Despite the machine self-cleaning once a day, an employee should manually wash the food contact portion every four hours. They agreed to add this to their cleaning cycles.

LaRue Cash and Carry LLC, 56 S. High St., LaRue, June 15. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed dented drink can on the hand sink. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging, and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed a bag of end cuts that are to be disposed of sitting in the counter where all the meat for purchase was being held. PIC immediately threw them out. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging, and segregation (critical). Observed apples not being individually wrapped. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed baked beans in walk-in cooler being held past their disposition date. PIC discarded them.

Marion Motomart South, 1297 S. Prospect St., Marion, June 15. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed rags being stored in the back room handwashing sink. Rags were removed and placed in a suitable location. Food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency (critical, corrected during inspection). PIC stated tongs for self-service area were not being cleaned at the four hour required frequency. PIC stated they would begin cleaning them at the required frequency. Missing and/or incomplete allergen declaration(s) (critical, corrected during inspection). Did not observe allergen declarations. PIC stated they would dispose of current products and cease sale until they are able to come up with the proper allergen labels for their products.

Circle K #4705332, 588 N. Main St., Marion, June 15. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed debris in the back room hand washing sink. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed hot hold items in the self service area being held past their disposition date. PIC disposed of them.

Lincoln Park Family Aquatic Center, 879 N. Prospect St., Marion, June 15. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (critical, corrected during inspection). Did not observe a health policy on site that was verifiable. Gave employees a health policy to have them sign and keep in office.

Tubby's Pizza, 138 W. Columbia St., Marion, June 15. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed lettuce at the pizza make table being held past its disposition date. PIC discarded the lettuce.
