Marion County restaurant inspections: June 2022 critical violations

The Louisiana Department of Health performs regular inspections of restaurants and stores that sell food. These are the local results of those inspections.

The following restaurant inspections with critical violations were conducted by Marion Public Health between June 15 and June 30:

Larue Cash and Carry LLC, 56 S High St., LaRue, June 15. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed dented drink can on the hand sink. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging, and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed a bag of end cuts that are to be disposed sitting in the counter where all the meat for purchase was being held. Person in charge (PIC) immediately threw them out. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed baked beans in walk-in cooler being held past their disposition date. PIC discarded them.

Big P's Pit Stop, 6551 Marion-Agosta Road, Marion, June 16. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed a dented can on the shelf for sale. PIC removed the can immediately.

Save-A-Lot #21488, 1306 Mt. Vernon Ave, Marion, June 16. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed several dented cans on the shelves. PIC removed them immediately. Equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are unclean (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed single-use containers that raw meat sits on for sale to be dirty. Employee disposed of them immediately.

Gordon Food Service Store, 1672 Marion-Mt. Road, Marion, June 16. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed several dented cans on the shelf for sale. PIC removed dented cans from shelves immediately.

North Marion Fuel Inc., 847 N. Main St., Marion, June 17. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed milk being held past its sell by date and sandwiches being held past their disposition date in the cooler. PIC disposed of them.

Green Camp Pit Stop, 201 Main St., Green Camp, June 17. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed dented can on the shelf for sale. PIC immediately removed can.

Al's Country Market, 3249 Harding Highway W., Marion, June 17. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed several deli items to not be date marked. PIC knew when they were put in and date marked the accordingly.

Pierce's Pizza & Drive Thru, 205 Battle St., Prospect, June 21. Food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency (critical, corrected during inspection). Employee and PIC stated the food utensils are cleaned once a day. Spoke to employee and PIC that they need to begin cleaning them every four hours or exchanging them for clean utensils every four hours.

Donato's Pizza, Inc. - Marion #35, 1181 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion, June 21. Food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed single-use tongs for grabbing wings and bread to not be disposed of at the required frequency. PIC stated they are disposed of once a day. Food equipment surfaces should be disposed of, cleaned or switched out every four hours. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed TCS food being held under the pizza make table to be held past its disposition date. PIC immediately removed items and disposed of them.

Perin Vending & Grand Prairie Farm Market, 1238 Linn Hipsher Road, Marion, June 23. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed two dented cans of mushrooms being stored on the shelves for use. PIC removed them from shelves and stated they would be sending them back to the supplier. Equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are unclean (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed build-up on piece of equipment used for pizza dough. Food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency (critical). Asked PIC how often they clean their deli slicer and they stated as needed; they do not clean it every four hours.

Family Dollar #33296, 36 N. High St., LaRue, June 24. Insufficient air gap between the flood rim and the water supply inlet (critical, corrected during inspection). Employee cut off the hose on the mopsink to ensure a proper air gap.

Chipotle's Mexican Grill #1422, 135 Edgefield Blvd., Marion, June 28. TCS foods not being hot held at the proper temperature (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed veggie mix being held at 119 degrees. Ready-to-eat foods should be held at 135 degrees or higher. PIC disposed of them.

Fairpark Duchess Shoppe #1221, 440 E. Fairground St., Marion, June 28. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (critical). Did not observe a signed sick policy on file. Provided PIC with sick policy and will be following up to ensure it is signed. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed several items being stored in the hand sink. TCS foods not being hot held at the proper temperature (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed hot holding unit to be sitting at 120 degrees. PIC discarded foods in the unit and increased temperature of the unit. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed several ready-to-eat items in the front cooler to be held past their disposition date. PIC disposed of foods. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed several foods to be missing date marks that had been held for more than 24 hours. PIC disposed of them. Missing and/or incomplete allergen declaration(s) (critical). Observed cake pops in bulk food container to not have allergen declarations in the allergen packet.

King Saver, 725 Richmond Ave., Marion, June 28. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed dented cans on the discounted display case. PIC removed them. Food contact surfaces not easily cleanable (critical). Observed cutting board in the deli to have large gashes in it. Food in an RFE must be embargoed due to adulteration, misbranding, or baby food or formula is expired (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed nearly the entire section of lactose-intolerant Similac formula to be expired. PIC removed them from the shelves.

Domino's Pizza # 2331, 538 E. Center St., Marion, June 29. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed food debris in hand sink. PIC removed debris and said they would discuss this with their employees.

East of Chicago Pizza, 1322 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion, June 30. Food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency (critical, corrected during inspection). PIC stated the sub cutter was only cleaned once a day. Discussed that it needs to be cleaned every four hours.

Papa Johns #626, 254 E. Center St., Marion, June 30. Equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are unclean (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed can opener piercing part to have build-up. PIC removed it for cleaning. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection).Observed spinach and mushrooms in the pizza make table to be held past their disposition date. PIC disposed of them.
