Marion County restaurant inspections: May 18 - 31 critical violations

The Louisiana Department of Health performs regular inspections of restaurants and stores that sell food. These are the local results of those inspections.

The following restaurant inspections with critical violations were conducted by Marion Public Health between May 18 and May 31:

Van Java Hibachi, 526 W. Center St., Marion, May 18. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed handles to in-use equipment to be touching food products.

Starbucks Coffee #11283, 130 McMahan Blvd., Marion, May 18. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (critical repeat). Did not observe employee sick policy in the facility. Equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are unclean (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed build-up in the ice machine.

Dunkin Donuts #560, 1136 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion, May 19. Handwashing sink not accessible (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed large boxes and donut racks in front of the front handwashing station. TCS foods not being cold held at the proper temperature (critical, corrected during inspection). Nitro coffee was not being held at the proper temperature. Person in charge (PIC) had entire cooler shut down until it is fixed and contents of cooler thrown out.

Subway, 1546 Marion Mount Gilead Road, Marion, May 19. Food employee(s) did not wash hands when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed employee putting on gloves without washing hands. Quaternary ammonium sanitizing solution at incorrect temperature, concentration, and/or water hardness (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed sanitizer concentration to be too low in the three-bay sink. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed TCS food in the walk-in cooler to be one day past their use-by date. PIC threw the food out.

Subway of Marion, 571 Delaware Ave., Marion, May 19. TCS foods not being cold held at the proper temperature (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed entire meat holding unit to be out of temperature. Food was discarded. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed food past its disposition date in the walk-in cooler. Employee discarded it immediately.

Subway #19747, 720 N. Main St., Marion, May 23. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed two items in the walk-in cooler that were being held past their disposition date. PIC immediately threw the items out.

Subway Sandwich, 1675 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, May 23. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed chicken, cucumbers and green peppers past their disposition date in both the walk-in cooler and reach-in cooler. PIC immediately disposed of them.

Genovas Pizza, 698 Richmond Ave., Marion, May 24. Food in contact with an unclean surface or linens (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed flour scoop and handle to be sitting inside the flour. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging, and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed lettuce in cooler to not have a lid. Food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency (critical, corrected during inspection). PIC stated pizza cutters equipment for removing pizza from oven are not cleaned every four hours, as required.

Buffalo Wild Wings #576, 1573 Marion Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, May 24. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed hand sink being used as a dump sink. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed pickles and uncooked chicken in both walk-in coolers to not have lids.

WALJ LLC/Subway, 691 W. Center St., Marion, May 24. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (critical). Did not observe an employee sick policy on file during the time of inspection. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed tomatoes being held in the two-door cooler past their disposition date. PIC discarded them immediately.

Kroger N 880, 1608 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, May 25. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed two dented cans on the shelves. PIC removed them immediately. Improper storage of poisonous or toxic materials (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed Ecolab cleanser being stored on the same table as food utensils.

Family Dollar Store # 21777, 520 N. Main St., Marion, May 25. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed several boxes of popcorn that were a month past their disposition date. PIC immediately disposed of them.

GAAL, LLC dba Three Sticks Golf Course, 3594 Gooding Road, Marion, May 31. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (critical, corrected during inspection). Did not observe a signed employee health policy. Employee on site signed her copy and will have the rest of the employees sign when they come in.

Kroger Company N 808, 1428 Marion-Waldo Road, Marion, May 31. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed hand sink in meat department to have a scrubber in it. Food in contact with an unclean surface or linens (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed food utensil handle to be sitting inside food during the time of inspection. PIC immediately removed utensils and placed new ones so they are not touching the food.
