Marion County This Week: Acoustic Nights has shows in Prospect, Waldo

The trio Acoustic Nights is scheduled to perform in Prospect and Waldo this week.

Featuring Dave Delauder, Steve Cooper, and John Cummings, the group will headline the entertainment on Tuesday evening at the Prospect Fourth of July Celebration. Acoustic Nights will take the stage from 5 to 9 p.m. at Prospect Community Park.

The celebration begins at noon on Tuesday at Prospect Community Park with a variety pf food being served, including hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue chicken, bratwurst, French fries, funnel cakes, and ice cream.

Rides will be open from 1:30 to 9:30 p.m., featuring pony rides, games for kids, and other activities.

Acoustic Nights will be back in action on Thursday evening at Parad'ice Cream, 189 N. Marion St. in Waldo. Showtime is 6 to 8 p.m.

Marion County Fair opens today

The 173rd edition of the Marion County Fair is scheduled for July 3-8 at the fairgrounds in Marion.

The grandstand will be a hub of activity with harness racing beginning July 3-4. Post time is 11 a.m. each day. The George "Tom" Criswell Memorial race is set for Monday. The Big John Townsend Memorial is the headline race on Tuesday.

Following is the rest of the grandstand activities during fair week:

  • July 3 - Tough Truck Contest, 7 p.m.

  • July 4 - Fireworks, 10 p.m.

  • July 5 - Truck Pull, 7:30 p.m.

  • July 6 - NTPA Tractor Pull, 7:30 p.m.

  • July 7 - Rodeo, 7:30 p.m.

  • July 8 - Demo Derby, 6:30 p.m.

One-day admission to the Marion County Fair for adults (age 11 and older) costs $10, but doesn't include the price of rides. Children (age 10 and younger) are admitted free. Pit passes for all grandstand events are available for $10 each. Children aged 3 and younger will be admitted free.

Ride tickets cost $2 each. An unlimited all-day ride pass costs $16. A Junior Fair exhibitors ride pass costs $12.

Farmers markets this week

The La Rue Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at 350 N. High St. in La Rue. Fresh produce and other items will be available. A food truck will be on site. For information, text 740-361-8078.

The Prospect Farmers Market is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday in the parking lot of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 200 E. Water St. in Prospect. The Downtown Marion Farmers Market is taking this week off due to the Marion County Fair. It will return on July 13.
