Marion County This Week: Next of Kin headlines Marion's 3rd Thursday

Downtown Marion, Inc.'s monthly 3rd Thursday returns this week with a Delaware County-based band as the featured act on the Founders Park stage.

Describing themselves as "five guys loving music," Next of Kin from the Galena area is a "southern rock and roll band that does a little country and a little blues." Its members are veteran musicians Dean Hooper, Ron O’Harra, Scott Scribner, Jeff Hodges, and Kirk Blue.

The band is known around the region for its tight vocals and harmonies. Next of Kin marked its 30th anniversary in the music business in 2022.

Showtime is at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Founders Park in downtown Marion. For more information about Next of Kin, go to its Facebook page.

The July edition of 3rd Thursday kicks off at 4 p.m. with the weekly Downtown Marion Farmers Market along Center Street. A kids play zone will be set up in the park. Food trucks and street vendors will also be available along South Main Street between Center and Church streets.

Poker Run to benefit Caledonia Festival on the Square

Friends of Caledonia and Bowstring Bar and Grill are teaming up to host a poker run to benefit the Caledonia Festival on the Square. The poker run is scheduled for July 22.

Registration costs $20 for a single rider or $25 for a rider with a passenger. Stop by Bowstring Bar and Grill, 109 N. Water St. in Caledonia, to register. Registration will also be held at 11 a.m. on the day of the poker run. Kickstands up at noon.

The Fight Club Band will perform at Bowstring Bar and Grill at 7 p.m. on July 22.

The Caledonia Festival on the Square is scheduled for Aug. 11-12. It will be open from 3 to 11 p.m. on Aug. 11 and from noon to 10 p.m. on Aug. 12. Left of Center will perform in the beer garden on Aug. 11 and The Alan Carl Band will perform in the beer garden on Aug. 12.

Farmers markets this week

The Downtown Marion Farmers Market is open from 4 to 7 p.m. each Thursday through Oct. 19. Vendors set up along Center St. between Main and Prospect streets. The La Rue Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at 350 N. High St. in La Rue. Fresh produce and other items will be available. A food truck will be on site. For information, text 740-361-8078.

The Prospect Farmers Market is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday in the parking lot of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 200 E. Water St. in Prospect. In addition to a variety of vendors, Fattie's Hot Dog Stand food truck will be on-site during this week's market.
