Marion man accused of murder following Friday night shooting

Marion Police have arrested a local man following a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday night in the city.

According to a press release issued by the Marion Police Department, officers arrested Justin Brady, 21, Marion, and have charged him with murder. He is accused of shooting and killing D’Jontaez K. Ross, 25, Marion, with whom he shared a residence located in the 200 block of Libby Lane.

Officers were dispatched to that address at 11:10 p.m. Friday after Brady called the Marion County Combined Dispatch Center to report that he had shot Ross. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Ross' body. He was already deceased, Chief Jay McDonald said.

McDonald said Brady waited at the residence for police to arrive and he was taken into custody without incident. He is in custody at the Multi-County Correctional Center in Marion. No bond information was available.

“This senseless act has impacted so many in our community. A young man has lost his life and another young man faces serious criminal charges because of needless violence,” said McDonald.

McDonald said it's not clear at this time exactly why Brady shot Ross. The incident is still being investigated, he said.

The Marion Fire Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Coroner’s Office, and MarionCounty Prosecutor’s Office assisted the police department at the scene.
