Marion man injured in his living room after car crashes into the sixth generation family home

MARION ― Greg Reasoner said he had just finished eating a tuna sandwich in the kitchen on Friday and was planning to relax in his living room while he charged a battery for a dump truck trailer in his driveway for 45 minutes when he heard a loud noise. Seconds later he said his house exploded.

His wife Kim thought the propane tank had exploded.

Greg Reasoner said at first he thought maybe it was a head-on collision on Ohio 4. Then he thought maybe a meteor struck his house as his mind was grasping to make sense of what had just happened.

Greg Reasoner suffered minor injuries Friday after a car crashed into the living room of his house on state Route 4 in Marion County. The house was built in 1894 by his great-grandfather, George Hill, and six generations have lived in the house to this day.

Buried under rubble

Dazed and covered in drywall and wood, he told his wife to call 911.

She too was disoriented so he asked her for the phone and he called 911, he said Monday by telephone. A dispatcher told him the patrol had already received several calls about the crash.

The crash involved a 2008 Acura RDX, driven by Lorenzo R.P. Johnson, 45, of Marion, according to the Marion post of the Highway Patrol.

Preliminary investigation indicates Johnson was traveling southbound on Ohio 4 when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, the patrol said in a news release.

Once off road, the Acura struck a boulder and a residence before overturning. Johnson was transported from the scene by Med Flight to The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, according to the patrol. Johnson was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash the couple heard was the car hitting the boulders in his wife's flower garden, Greg Reasoner said. The car ended up in the rose garden.

Greg Reasoner said his wife was only a few feet away when the crash occurred, having come into the living room to pick up a laptop.

He was sitting in a chair next to his grandmother's 1930 Singer sewing machine, which was found outside in the yard smashed up after the crash.

Car was airborne

He believes the car missed him by just one or two feet after it sliced through the porch pillars.

"I believe he was airborne," Greg said.

He said he told his wife to take photographs since he wasn't sure how injured he was. But before she did that, she removed drywall and wood boards from around his body.

A Mansfield contractor is going to restore the house, Greg Reasoner said. He said he and his family are "absolutely dedicated to getting the family home back as close to its original condition."

Greg Reasoner was transported to Marion General Hospital by Marion Township EMS.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, 1st Consolidated Fire and EMS, Salt Rock Township Fire and EMS, Marion Township Fire and EMS, and Buckeye Collision Towing.
