Marist student's relative dead following shooting at Town of Poughkeepsie hotel
A family member of a Marist College student is dead following a shooting at the Courtyard by Marriott on Route 9 Sunday morning, according to statements from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the school.
Two male suspects were taken into custody, and police said they do not believe there is any additional danger to the public.
Gunshots were fired both inside and outside the hotel, according to the police statement, which also said said they found bomb-making manuals and material which could be used as explosives inside a hotel room.
The state police bomb squad responded and secured the explosives and manuals, according to Poughkeepsie police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was notified.

Police said they received a 911 call around 7:30 a.m. reporting shots fired at the hotel, which is located at 2641 South Road.
At the hotel, police located the victim and arrested the shooter, according to the statement. Police said the victim was taken to a local hospital, but later died as a result of his injuries.
The identity of the shooter and the shooting victim have not yet been released by police, but an emailed statement from Marist College identified the victim as the family member of a student at Marist.
“This morning, authorities made us aware of the tragic, fatal shooting of a family member of a Marist student at a local hotel several miles from campus," Marist officials said in the statement. "Our deepest condolences go out to the family, and we are offering the full support of the Marist community."
Marist College celebrated "Family weekend" on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and encouraged students to invite their families to the campus for a variety of activities including a football game and barbecue, according to the school's website.
Multiple agencies responded to the call and remained at the scene Sunday afternoon investigating, according to police. Dutchess County Emergency Response, Marist College and the American Red Cross also responded and assisted with transporting guests who were staying at the hotel away from the scene, according to a statement.
Other responding agencies included: City of Poughkeepsie police, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, state police, Village of Wappingers Falls police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Arlington Fire Department, Mobile Life, EMstar, and the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office.
