The establishment media obsession of trying to paint the GOP as the party of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has ignored the obvious and much more consequential development: the ruling Democratic Party is quickly surrendering to its most radical, bigoted members, if it hasn’t fully surrendered already.

The coddling of Minnesota's Rep. Ilhan Omar, an overt anti-Semite, has continued. Speaker Nancy Pelosi refuses to discipline her in any way for her latest round of morally equating Israel and the U.S. to terrorist organizations that fire hundreds of rockets at civilians. Now, her fellow “Squad” members have taken to lashing out at the party leadership and especially at those few Democrats who dared offer a mild condemnation of Omar.

Pelosi will once again sit there and take it. For all the complaints about House Republican leadership, many of which are deserved, the Republicans moved quickly to condemn Greene’s last round of incendiary comments. In contrast, Pelosi and Democratic leadership have continued to let Omar and her Jew-disparaging colleagues get away with their antics, to the point where Democratic leaders are now letting themselves be shamed for not totally accepting Omar’s inane comparison.

Meanwhile, other House progressives have taken to targeting West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, labeling him a racist supporter of Jim Crow for defending the legislative filibuster and failing to fall in line behind progressive priorities. New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took it further, going after the other swing state Democratic senators for using Manchin as a human shield against the wrath of the activist wing of the party.

Even President Joe Biden, the supposed centrist who has moved leftward whenever activists have demanded, has reached this point. He used the podium during his visit to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to criticize the only two Senate Democrats who could reasonably be considered centrists for blocking his agenda, which has become a list of progressive power grabs.

Establishment media is always eager to decry the downfall of the GOP into radicalism. Journalists have launched new rounds of concern trolling every time members of the party have gone along with Trump's election antics. But a large chunk of the party still voted to certify Biden’s election, and 17 Republicans voted to impeach or convict Trump in his second impeachment trial. Even if the GOP rhetorically tied itself to Trump, its policies remained grounded and mainstream.

The opposite is true for Democrats. While the Biden administration occasionally distances itself from its extremists rhetorically, its policies could have been handed down directly from Ocasio-Cortez, which is made most clear by Vice President Kamala Harris’s disaster of a visit to Guatemala and Mexico and the administration’s ongoing crisis at the border.

For all the talk of Republican civil wars, the Democratic Party has been facing its own for the last three years, and their party is offering is far less resistance to its more radical members and ideas than in the GOP. Democrats are being overrun by their progressive wing.
