Marjorie Taylor Greene Claims Straight People Face Extinction

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has joined those pushing the baseless assertion that the mass shooter in Uvalde, Texas, was transgender or at least gender-nonconforming — and she has also claimed that there’s a plot to turn everyone gay or trans.

The Uvalde gunman, who killed 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school last Tuesday before dying himself, “had a lot of mental issues going on, as was shown with him wearing eyeliner, cross-dressing, a lot of his language, being a loner,” Greene, a Georgia Republican, said Saturday on a social media livestream. Clips of this and other outlandish remarks are being shared widely on Twitter.

Another Republican member of Congress, Paul Gosar of Arizona, tweeted last week that the shooter was “a transsexual leftist illegal alien.” Gosar eventually deleted the message. Other right-wing politicians and commentators have falsely claimed the shooter was trans. Trans women have been harassed because of this and at least one, in Texas, physically attacked. For the record, the gunman was not trans and was a U.S. citizen.

Greene, who is infamous for her unhinged rants and embrace of conspiracy theories, went even further in her anti-LGBTQ+ remarks. She claimed that authority figures are “grooming” children to identify on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, to the extent that straight people will become extinct.

“They just want you to think that all of a sudden the entire population is steadily turning gay or turning trans,” Greene said. “Just generation, generation, generation. … Probably in about four or five generations, no one will be straight anymore. Everyone will be either gay or trans or nonconforming or whatever the list of 50 or 60 different options there are.”

Greene also added to her record of malapropisms in pushing yet another conspiracy theory. The congresswoman, who recently used “gazpacho” when she meant “Gestapo” — Nazi Germany’s political police — said there’s a plot to make us all eat meat substitutes grown in a “peach tree dish,” meaning “Petri dish.”

“The government totally wants to provide surveillance on every part of your life,” she said. “They want to know when you’re eating. They want to know if you’re eating a cheeseburger, which is very bad because Bill Gates wants you to eat his fake meat, which is grown in a peach tree dish.”

“So you’ll probably get a little zap inside your body,” she continued, and that’s saying, ‘No no! Don’t eat a real cheeseburger, you need to eat the fake, the fake burger, the fake meat from Bill Gates.”
