A Jan. 6 event featuring Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was canceled after the central Florida venue planning to host the gathering learned its “purpose.”

The event was billed as a “book signing,” though NBC News reported an early invite to Greene’s gathering called it an “anniversary” of the lethal 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol by extremists hoping to keep Donald Trump in office after he lost the 2020 presidential election.

“Please be advised that Westgate was not made aware when we were approached to host a book signing,” Westgate Vacation Villas Resorts said in a statement to the Orlando Sentinel. “This event has been canceled and is no longer taking place at our resort.”

Tickets started at $45. “Super VIP” passes that included a “private briefing on Jan.6 ” with the Georgia congresswoman sold for $1,000.

Greene, whose X social media bio reads “Today and everyday is 1776,” is a staunch supporter of the convicted criminals who attacked Capitol police and sent elected officials into hiding on January 6, 2021. So far, more than 1,200 people have been charged in connection with the uprising.

Florida state Rep, Anna V. Eskamani wrote on X she at first hoped it was a “joke” that Greene would be celebrated at an event commemorating the attack on the Capitol.
