Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene served as the national director of a far-right Facebook group that expressed support for executing leading Democrats and featured violent memes amplifying conspiracy theories.

That's according to Mother Jones, which first reported on Greene's long history of involvement with the group, called Family America Project.

The freshman congresswoman's biography says she once served as the national director of the group, which was created in January 2018. It has a small following - roughly 1,700 followers - and describes itself as "the first and only national umbrella organization connecting, uniting, and informing statewide grassroots groups and activists; working together and mobilizing to support President Trump, protect Constitutional rights of Americans, and reinvigorate our American roots and culture."

Mother Jones reported that the group's founder, Genevieve Peters, made headlines last year when she refused to wear a mask at a Trader Joe's in California. The report uncovered a number of memes posted on Family America Project's Facebook page that called for violence against liberals and Democrats while Greene was its moderator.

One 2018 post was an image of a noose with the words, "If you want to make America great again, we will have to make evil people fear punishment again" superimposed on it. The individual who posted the photo also wrote, "Start with Hillary and obama!" Mother Jones said.

Another post the outlet unearthed included an American flag and said, "I will defend my country against all enemies foreign and domestic, including liberal Democrats." Yet another said, "Some people need a caress...(Democrats) On the head with a hammer....Democrats The Evil Amongst US Seeking to Destroy And To Kill."

Greene's office did not respond to Mother Jones' request for comment.

This story is the latest in a series of media reports detailing Greene's history of explicitly promoting and endorsing violence against her political opponents.

• Greene expressed support on her own Facebook page for assassinating top Democrats including former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, CNN reported.

• She liked a Facebook comment saying Nancy Pelosi, who had just become the House speaker after Democrats regained control of the chamber, should get a "bullet to the head.

• Greene expressed support for other Facebook comments that called for the execution of FBI agents.

• In a recently surfaced video, Greene was seen harassing a survivor of the Parkland school shooting and claiming the tragedy was a false-flag operation.

• The left-leaning outlet Media Matters for America found additional social media posts where Greene amplified an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory claiming that a space laser linked to Rothschild Inc. was responsible for the deadly California wildfires in 2018.

The Georgia congresswoman made headlines even before she was sworn in because of her avowed support for the unhinged QAnon conspiracy theory, which the FBI said poses a domestic terrorism threat in the US.

Several Republican senators have spoken out against Greene in recent days, criticizing her "loony lies" and describing her as a "kook" and a "wacky weed." Others have dodged questions about her entirely, like Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who said he couldn't comment on Greene because bad weather had prevented him from reading the news.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy met with Greene in his office on Tuesday after Democrats called on Republicans to strip the lawmaker of her committee assignments in the wake of revelations about her online activity.

But the GOP refused to do so and Democrats said they were unable to come to an agreement with Republicans on how to deal with Greene. In light of that, Democratic leadership said the House will formally vote on Thursday to remove Greene from her committees.
