Mark your calendar for holiday events in West Tennessee

Christmas in Jackson and the surrounding areas is something special and there are plenty of holiday events to look out for this year.

If you’re looking to drive a bit out of town, the City of Milan will host its annual Christmas Tree Lighting and holiday parade at Milan City Hall Dec. 1. Visitors can check out the plethora of food vendors at the Milan Farmer’s Market at 4 p.m., then head to City Hall for the tree lighting at 5:45 p.m., and finish off the night at the parade that begins at 6:30 p.m.

From Dec. 2-7, the University School of Jackson will put on a holiday show for all — Elf the Musical that is. Prospective audience members can purchase tickets here.

Head downtown Jackson on Dec. 3 if you want to experience Christmas at the Walk, a day where local artisan vendors line the Jackson Walk to sell their goods and bring the holiday joy. Beginning at 10 a.m., the event continues until 4 p.m. and will feature a Turntable Coffee Counter pop-up.

Additionally on Dec. 3, the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church will host the 6th Annual St. Nicholas Festival, a free event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features plenty of family-friendly activities like a petting zoon, a craft workshop, and an ugly sweater contest for adults and children alike.

The Annual Christmas Pottery Sale put on by Union University, held in the main hallway of Barefoot Student Union Building on Dec. 9 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Jacksonians can expect the lighting ceremony of the town Christmas Tree to also take place on Dec. 9 in front of Jackson City Hall at 5:15 p.m. For more fun and holiday spirit the following day, Downtown Jackson will hold the City of Jackson Christmas Parade beginning at 10 a.m. Commencing at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, more information about the parade route can be found here.

Singer-songwriter and Jackson native Lauren Pritchard will host LOLO’s Christmas Brunch at Hub City brewing where she will aid in the packing of bags for the RIFA Snack Backpack Program — a ministry that strives to fight child hunger in the community.

Brook Shaw’s Old Country Store is scheduled to host Christmas Eve Breakfast on Dec. 24 beginning promptly at 5:30 a.m. and reservations can not be made. Santa will also be making an appearance and the event will feature kid-friendly activities. The gift shop closes at 3 p.m. and the final guests for breakfast will be seated at 2 p.m.

From Dec. 24-27, the Jackson Fairgrounds are putting on the Christmas Under the Stars light display drive-thru. The $10 per car fee will support the STAR Center, an organization that provides disability services to West Tennesseans across 21 counties.
