Market Basket to open in North Conway on Friday

Oct. 22—The newest Market Basket will open in North Conway on Friday, according to the family-owned grocery chain.

The grand opening plans for store No. 94 at 80 Barnes Road were revealed on social media Sunday.

"The wait is finally over," the Facebook post reads. The doors will open at 7 a.m.

The newest Market Basket in the Granite State will open a little more than a year after opening a store at Merchants Way plaza at Exit 17 off Interstate 93 in Concord.

Pictures of the new store on its website include a "Market's Butcher Block" and "Market's Cafe," showing menu items for cappuccinos and soft serve ice cream.

The chain — known for its "More for Your Dollar" slogan — was founded in 1917 as a small "grocerette" in Lowell, Mass., by the Demoulas family. North Conway will be the 33rd location in New Hampshire and the furthest north with the closest store being in Plymouth.

Flyers announcing the grand opening say the chain has 89 locations across New England.

Parent company Demoulas Super Markets Inc. sources from 100 different farms in New England, including Contoocook Creamery.

Construction of the 70,000-square-foot Market Basket started in March 2022, according to the Settlers Green website.

The project was stalled for years after Bellevue Properties, the owners of the North Conway Grand Hotel, filed lawsuits against the project, which was approved by the Planning Board in 2018.

The Market Basket is part of Settlers Green Streetside Phase II, a $30 million expansion project.

"It has been our mission for over 10 years to bring Market Basket to our community," Rob Barsamian, principal of OVP Management Inc., developer of Settlers Green, said in a statement.

Settlers Green Streetside Phase I was completed in 2017 as part of an expansion of Settlers Green Outlet Village, originally opened in 1988.
