Marlboro bus strike ends with new deal, drivers to report to school Thursday
School is back in session for Marlboro bus drivers after the driver’s union ended their three-day strike against the NRT bus company Wednesday after gaining their new desired contract.
Teamsters Local 170 Union 170 representative Jim Marks tells Boston 25 News drivers will be operating their normal school routes Thursday morning.
Marlboro, Framingham and Westboro all threatened to strike this weekend after contract negotiations between the drivers and NRT recently collapsed. According to the drivers, negotiations were about getting bus monitors and minibus drivers their fair share. A big raise in January only went to “big” bus drivers (with their CDL licenses), and the union wanted raises for the 11 employees who didn’t get an increase.
A strike was averted in Framingham Sunday after Teamsters came to an agreement with the city.
As part of the contract agreement, Westboro drivers will be allowed to vote on whether they wish to continue having union representation. Contract negotiations for Westboro drivers have been paused in the meantime and the union did not go on strike Monday.
Marlboro Superintendent Mary Muphy previously told Boston 25 she was unsure if teamsters and NRT planned to negotiate Wednesday.
Despite the strike, Marlboro schools were kept open Monday. Lots of families walked or drove their kids to class, causing a huge backup in traffic.
