Marlborough couple's newest daughter is the first baby born in MetroWest in 2024

FRAMINGHAM — "A blessing and a miracle."

That's how Erelin Darianna, the first baby born in 2024 at MetroWest Medical Center's Beautiful Beginnings Birth Center at Framingham Union Hospital, is being described by her parents.

Erelin was born to Evelin and Erick Garcia, of Marlborough, at 3:27 a.m. on Jan. 1, according to a news release from MetroWest Medical Center.

Erelin is the Garcias' fourth child. Their others are Stephanie, 26; Jennifer 24; and Eric, 16.

Erick Garcia, who works as a welder, said having the first baby born in 2024 feels great, but surprising.

"It feels like our first baby, with her being 16 years apart from our youngest son," he told the Daily News in an interview Wednesday at the Lincoln Street hospital.

"The baby was a big surprise," Erick added. "We're happy to have a baby. It feels like a new life after three kids and having another one with a 16-year difference. It's a miracle.

"It's a blessing and a miracle."

Erelin weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces and was 21 inches long. Her name is a combination of her parents' — Erick and Evelin. The Garcias have been together for more than 30 years.

In celebration of their New Year’s Day baby, hospital staff presented the couple with a bottle of sparkling cider with two flutes, a small dish of assorted petite desserts and a bag of baby goodies.
