The Miami Marlins are bringing one of their top prospects back to the big leagues for the final month of the season.

With rosters set to expand from 26 players to 28, the club is calling up utility player Xavier Edwards from Triple A Jacksonville, a source told the Miami Herald on Friday morning.

Edwards, Miami’s No. 4 prospect according to MLB Pipeline who was acquired this offseason along with JT Chargois in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, has been one of the organization’s most consistent hitters. He posted a .351 batting average, .429 on-base percentage and .457 slugging mark 93 games with Triple A Jacksonville this season. He has also drawn 52 walks while striking out just 30 times in 433 plate appearances and has 32 stolen bases.

Edwards had two brief MLB stints already this season and hit .381 in 21 at-bats. Defensively, he has primarily played second base and center field with Jacksonville but recently began playing third base and shortstop as well.

It’s unclear who will be the second player added to the roster on Friday, but that addition will likely only be temporary. Right-handed pitcher Johnny Cueto is eligible to come off the injured list Saturday and is expected to start that day for the Marlins against the Washington Nationals.

Trust the stache?

Third baseman Jake Burger has been steady at the plate since the Marlins acquired him at the trade deadline from the Chicago White Sox, but his power numbers have not been to his liking.

Maybe all he needed was a change in his facial hair?

That’s what Burger and his wife Ashyln are going with.

Burger recently shaved his full beard down to just a mustache at his wife’s insistence and, at least on Thursday, the power stroke returned. He hit a solo home run — his third since joining the Marlins — in the ninth inning of their 6-1 win to begin a four-game series with Washington.

“I went out there to the field after the game to take a picture with her,” Burger said, “and she’s like ‘Hey, it’s the mustache.’ Hopefully it keeps going.”

In 26 games with the Marlins, Burger is hitting .323 (32 for 99) with a .380 on-base percentage, .485 slugging mark, seven doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored. He has at least one hit in 21 of those 26 games.

A chance for 20/20

With his three-run home run on Thursday, Jazz Chisholm Jr. is up to 14 on the season with a month left to play.

Couple that with his 17 stolen bases, and Chisholm, who has only played in 71 games this season, has the chance to be the first player in Marlins history since Hanley Ramirez in 2010 to have a 20 home run, 20 stolen base season.

Only four players have accomplished the feat in franchise history: Ramirez (five times between 2007-2010), Derek Lee (2003), Preston Wilson (three times between 2000-2002) and Cliff Floyd (1998, 2000).
