Marlow Council approves lot split request; MMA takes no action on electric rates

Dec. 21—MARLOW — Requests, recognitions and rate approvals came to a forefront for Marlow council members and trustee board members during a routine end-of-the year meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

The first item up for discussion with Marlow Councilors was for a lot split request to divide 1108 S. Broadway and 1122 S. Broadway into three tracts.

City Administrator Jason McPherson said the property is behind the car wash, Marlow Kwik Lube and tag office.

"It's actually connected with the tag office," he said.

According to McPherson, the plan is to build storage units.

"It would be three properties, it would be the Kwik Lube, car wash in one, the tag office in another," he said. "That property back there on the back, the south side, would be a third."

Councilors approved the lot split with a 3-0 vote.

Next, the board opened up discussion to seek requests for quotations (RFQ) on potential demolition of property.

McPherson said this is the downtown property located at 109 W. Main and isn't condemned yet.

"We have not started that process," he said.

According to McPherson, the building shares a wall with the Blue Rock building right next to it, to the east side.

"Our next step is to see if there is any vendors out there that would be willing to take that on," he said.

He noted this item up for approval would be to seek quotes on it, which the board approved.

To wrap up the council segment, McPherson noted he handed out service pins at the City of Marlow Christmas party to three employees who have reached a five-year interval.

"Lt. Shane Linam with the fire department has been with us for five years, Captain Tony Aguilera, police department, has been with us 15 years and Kaye George just completed her 40th year with the city. She started on Sept. 16, 1983," McPherson said.

In a separate meeting, the Marlow Municipal Authority (MMA) opened discussion to review the electric rates. McPherson said he wasn't recommending any change to the electric rates this year.

"The main reason is we had a good profit last year," he said. "This year, we're kind of behind, it wasn't as hot."

McPherson recommended to the trustee board to not raise the rates and the trustees took no action.

The City of Marlow and MMA will host its next meeting at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 23, 2024, in the Council Chambers at 119 S. Second Street.
