Marquette inches closer to top 10 in AP college basketball rankings

The Marquette men's basketball team keeps climbing the national rankings.

The Golden Eagles (17-5, 9-2 Big East) ascended to No. 14 in The Associated Press top 25 rankings on Monday. MU was 16th last week.

MU beat DePaul, 89-69, at Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Saturday in the Golden Eagles' lone game of the week. MU plays Villanova on Wednesday at Fiserv Forum.

The Golden Eagles were last in the top 15 in the AP rankings on Jan. 14, 2019.

MU is tied for first place in the Big East standings with Xavier and Providence.

Marquette guard Tyler Kolek is Big East player of the week

After a near-triple double against DePaul with 24 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds, MU guard Tyler Kolek was named Big East player of the week.

Kolek's 8.0 assists per game lead the Big East and rank third in the nation.

MU's Kam Jones earned Big East's player of the week last Monday.
