Marquette is one of the 5 programs in the hunt for former UW basketball standout Maty Wilke

MADISON – Eight days after Maty Wilke officially announced her intention to transfer out of the Wisconsin women’s basketball program, her destination is becoming clearer.

The Beaver Dam native has narrowed her choices to, in no particular order of preference, Marquette, Michigan, Minnesota, Stanford and Utah.

Wilke's departure is the most surprising of a recent of a string of exits from the Badgers this offseason.

Mary Ferrito, a freshman walk-on from Ohio, and Krystyna Ellew, a sophomore guard from Chicago who averaged 3.1 points per game this past season, previously announced their plans to transfer. Ellew signed with Illinois-Chicago last week.

The program also lost assistant coach Caroline Doty whose position was posted last month.

Wilke, along with freshman Serah Williams, was set to be a foundational piece of coach Marisa Moseley’s rebuilding effort at UW. Wilke ranked third on the team in scoring (11.8 ppg) and average minutes (33.9). She also averaged 3.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. No freshman in the Big Ten played more minutes.

She equaled her career high of 17 points in the Badgers' loss to Purdue at the Big Ten tournament.

At her new stop Wilke could return to the combo guard role she played while starring for Beaver Dam High School. She played mostly off the ball for the Badgers during this past year, her redshirt freshman season. Wherever she lands, she'll have three years of eligibility remaining and be able to play immediately.
