Marquette remains ranked among best college basketball teams in AP top 25 poll

A successful regular season is in the books for the Marquette men's basketball team.

The Golden Eagles won their first outright Big East championship and had players rake in individual awards, including all-Big East selections and the league's sixth man of the year.

MU continues to be ranked among the best teams in the nation.

Where is Marquette ranked in AP poll this week?

The Golden Eagles remained sixth in the Associated Press poll that was released on Monday.

MU first entered the AP poll this season on Dec. 19. The Golden Eagles have been ranked every week since Jan. 9.

There will be a final AP top 25 poll next week.

When was the last time Marquette was ranked this high?

The Golden Eagles reached as high as eighth in the 2011-12 season. They were ranked No. 8 three times in 2008-09, once in 2006-07 and twice in 2002-03.

The last time MU was ranked higher than eighth was the 1977-78 season in which they were inside the top 5 until the final poll, when the then-Warriors were No. 8.

The Golden Eagles went 2-0 last week, including a win at Butler to clinch Big East title

The Golden Eagles clinched the outright Big East crown by winning at Butler on Tuesday. MU then got to celebrate its success in front of more than 18,000 fans at Fiserv Forum after beating St. John's in the regular-season finale on Saturday.

When does Marquette play in the Big East tournament?

The Golden Eagles are the top seed in the league tournament for the first time. They will play at 11 a.m. Central on Thursday at Madison Square Garden in New York against the winner of the St. John's-Butler matchup.
