The Marquette men's basketball team has already clinched a share of the Big East regular-season title, but the Golden Eagles (23-6, 15-3) can win it outright by beating Butler (14-15, 6-12) on Tuesday at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

MU, ranked sixth in the latest Associated Press top 25, was picked by the league's coaches to finish ninth in the preseason poll.

Has Marquette ever won a Big East championship?

The Golden Eagles shared the Big East title in the 2012-13 season with Georgetown and Louisville. The Golden Eagles exceeded expectations that season as well after being predicted to finish seventh. MU's roster included Juan Anderson, Jamil Wilson and Vander Blue.

Has Marquette won any other conference championships?

MU won its first regular-season title under former coach Kevin O'Neill in 1994 in the Great Midwest Conference.

With Mike Deane as head coach and Aaron Hutchins as the star guard, MU won the 1997 Conference USA tournament championship by beating Cincinnati 60-52 in the title game at the Kiel Center in St. Louis.

Under Tom Crean, the Golden Eagles won the 2003 regular-season title in Conference USA. MU advanced to the Final Four that season.

When did Marquette join a conference in basketball?

MU was an independent school until the 1989-90 season, so legendary coach Al McGuire didn't have the chance to win a conference title when he was in charge from 1964-77.

O'Neill was the coach when MU joined the Midwest Collegiate Conference in 1989.

MU was a member of the Great Midwest Conference from 1991-94 before it merged with the Metro Conference to form Conference USA in 1995.

The Golden Eagles joined the Big East in 2005 and remained part of it when the league reformed in 2013.
