Marshall’s Falls Park opens in Monroe County

SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Marshall’s Falls Park has been in the making since 2008 when supervisors purchased the original 15-acre parcel.

The Smithfield Township Manager, Julia Heilakka, says the main challenge was securing a highway occupancy permit from PennDOT for a driveway on Marshall’s Creek Road for a parking lot.

There was a residential two acres next to the parcel and PennDOT wouldn’t provide the permit until the private driveway vacated.

They almost lost two grants from 2017, but with help from the former property owner and supervisors working together, the township decided to purchase the parcel to close the driveway in order to create the parking lot.

“This park has been in the works for so long and we are so absolutely excited to finally be able to allow our residents and visitors alike to view this absolute gem in the Poconos. You don’t see a waterfall like this every day and the area is just so serene and beautiful, we’re excited people can finally enjoy it,” Heilakka explained.

The park officially opened to the public on April 12.
