Marshall WR Willie Johnson IV signing with Jags after rookie minicamp tryout

The Jacksonville Jaguars receivers room got a little bigger on Sunday. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team signed undrafted Marshall receiver and returner Willie Johnson IV, who joined them as a tryout player for this weekend’s rookie minicamp.

Johnson had a career year in terms of receiving yards with the Herd in 2021, accumulating 32 catches for 625 yards and three touchdowns. He ultimately finished his career with 114 catches for 1,846 yards and 13 touchdowns.

As a returner, Johnson accumulated 22 kick returns for 492 yards and had 19 punt returns for 148 yards.

Johnson will now join a Jags team that has 10 receivers who were in the league last year, plus two undrafted rookie receivers (Kevin Austin and Lujuan Winningham), who signed contracts after the draft. It will be an uphill battle for him to make the team, but the team could use an extra receiver with Jamal Agnew recovering from a season-ending hip injury still.
