Retail stores were given the green light to reopen on May 29 as Illinois advanced to phase 3 of the state’s reopening plan. Stores must maintain social distancing and Illinois Department of Public Health-approved sanitation, capacity limits and safety guidelines. Customers and employees are required to wear face masks. Stores will also have spacing and barriers at checkouts.

When retail stores closed in March and Illinois citizens were told to stay home to curb the spread of coronavirus, many stores were just starting to put out their spring and summer merchandise. To lure shoppers back, deep discounts are being offered.

Chicago Ridge Mall at 95th Street and Ridgeland Avenue is now open, with social distancing, capacity limits and other safety guidelines. Opening schedules vary by retailer. Before arriving, call or check a store’s website for opening details. The food court is closed and some restrooms may be closed to the public. Shoppers will also find furniture in the mall common area spaced six feet apart. Temporary mall hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Some stores we checked had plywood over their windows as a precaution against possible looting. Don't let that concern you.
