Marshfield trailer home destroyed in Wednesday fire that killed cat and dog

MARSHFIELD − A fire destroyed a trailer home Wednesday night, killing one dog and one cat.

At 11:53 p.m. Wednesday, a caller reported flames coming from a trailer home at 1407 N. Peach Ave., Lot 320, according to a news release from the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department. The caller said all the residents were out of the home, but a dog and cat were still inside.

Marshfield firefighters and police responded to the home, which was fully engulfed with fire and portions of the exterior walls failing, according to the news release. Firefighters knocked down the fire quickly and kept it from spreading to nearby structures.

The Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department requested assistance from the Hewitt Fire Department and Wood County Central Fire and Rescue Association.

The trailer home and its contents, which were not insured, were a total loss, according to the news release. Heat from the fire caused minor damage to homes to the east and west of the destroyed home.

The dog and cat both died in the fire, but the residents and firefighters were not hurt.
