Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids earn tough Valley Football Association victories

MARSHFIELD – Trevor Foemmel hurt D.C. Everest with his legs and his arm Friday night.

The Marshfield quarterback ran for two touchdowns and passed for three in a 44-29 victory over the Evergreens in a Valley Football Association game.

Foemmel had 182 yards rushing and completed 10 of 16 passes for 158 yards to give the Tigers the win in their Valley Football Association opener.

Most of the scoring came in the second half after Marshfield led 10-7 at halftime.

Foemmel had scoring runs of 52 and 71 yards in the third quarter to give the Tigers a 24-10 lead. He had touchdown passes of 9 and 18 yards to Luke LeMoine, and a 13-yard scoring pass to Sam Meverden that gave Marshfield a 37-16 lead with 9:39 remaining in the third quarter.

Jack Bobinski completed 14-of-22 passes for 214 yards for D.C. Everest.

Marshfield and Wausau West are tied atop the VFA with 2-0 records. D.C. Everest is 1-1 in the VFA along with Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and Hortonville.

Marshfield plays at Wausau West next Friday, while SPASH is at D.C. Everest and Wisconsin Rapids travels to Hortonville.

Teal Lucas and Leo Brostowitz both ran for two touchdowns and Lucas passed for another as Wisconsin Rapids beat Stevens Point 34-21. Lucas’ passing touchdown was on a 50-yard play to Evan Matthews. His rushing touchdowns were 16 and 38 yards. Brostowitz scored his rushing touchdowns from 24 and 4 yards out. Brostowitz had 306 yards rushing on 32 carries. Lucas gained 94 yards on 14 carries. … Wausau West rallied for a 34-14 nonconference road victory over Kingsford, Mich. Ray Reineck had 161 rushing yards and three touchdowns for the Warriors, who outscored the Flivvers 28-0 in the fourth quarter after trailing 14-6.

Sam Wangelin’s 24-yard field goal as time expired gave Amherst a 31-28 victory over Wittenberg-Birnamwood. Matthew Glodowski rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns, and completed 10 of 12 passes for 120 yards and two scores for Amherst, which trailed 14-0 in the second quarter. ... Edgar remained unbeaten with a 42-0 victory over Rosholt. Kohlbe Weisenberger and Karter Butt each scored twice on the ground and Teegan Streit threw two touchdown passes to Leyton Schuett to lead Edgar. Butt had 135 yards on seven carries. … Nick Leberg rushed for 243 yards and five touchdowns on 31 carries to lead Assumption to a 51-20 win over Marathon. … Davin Stoffel had three touchdown catches and also returned a fumble for a score to lead Mosinee to a 55-14 win over Ashland. ... Christian Fuentes ran for 381 yards and five touchdowns to lead Abbotsford to a 63-27 victory over Iola-Scandinavia. Fuentes had scoring runs of 60, 64, 91, 7 and 84 yards.
