Former bus driver of 30 years confirmed as MARTA’s new CEO

There’s a new leader guiding the metro area’s transit into the future and he started out as a bus driver.

On Thursday, Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority board of directors confirmed Collie Greenwood as the new head of Atlanta’s transit authority.

MARTA says Greenwood rose through the ranks over 30 years in Toronto, and then began his journey in Atlanta in July 2019.

There won’t be much of a transition for Greenwood, as he has been the interim CEO since January.

Greenwood oversaw all bus and rail operations and helped develop and deliver major capital projects.

“I am honored and humbled by this opportunity,” said Greenwood. “I love transit and have known since my days of driving a bus how vital it is to people and their communities. I am eager to get to work enhancing and expanding service in the metro Atlanta region.”

Former CEO and general manager Jeffrey Parker died Jan.14, 2022. Parker had led MARTA since 2018.
