Martin Roberts says he would have been on 'scrap heap' without amazing doctors

Martin Roberts has said he “should have been on the scrap heap” after his recent health emergency but that doctors saved his life.

The Homes Under The Hammer star had to have emergency surgery in April after a large amount of fluid was found around his heart.

According to The Sun, Roberts said he found out afterwards that he when he went in to have his operation, his heart was “giving up”, his kidneys and liver were operating at 30 per cent and his lungs were “weakening”.

“I should have been on the scrap heap, so little inside me was working as it should,” said the star.

Roberts, 58, said he “wouldn’t be here” if it wasn’t for the medical staff who cared for him.

“It all seemed to happen so fast, there wasn’t time for me to panic,” he said. “There was an entire team that saved my life.”

The presenter went back to work in May, telling his followers on Instagram that it was a “very special day”.

“It's quite an emotional one to be honest because I've spoken to the doctors and they've said as long as I take it easy I'm okay to start work,” he said.

“So I am back today filming Homes Under The Hammer.”

The star was standing in front of a house and leaned over and gave it a kiss.

“I'm in the valleys of Wales, I never thought I'd be so happy to see a two-up-and-down terrace!” he said.
