Marvel has announced delayed release dates for Captain America 4, plus five other superhero films.

Captain America: Brave New World was scheduled for release on May 3, 2024, but the recently-renamed movie has now been pushed back to August 26, 2024. This has had knock-on effects on five other Marvel films, including the Avengers franchise.

According to Variety, Avengers: Kang Dynasty is getting pushed back an entire year. The original release was set for May 2, 2025, with the new date touted as May 1, 2026.

This will subsequently take the place of Avengers: Secret Wars, which will be delayed until May 7, 2027.

Marvel's Thunderbolts is now expected to premiere on December 20, 2024, with Blade now moved to February 14, 2025 following reports it had been temporarily shelved. Meanwhile, Fantastic Four has a new release date of May 2, 2025.

Elsewhere at Disney, there have also been delays to the Avatar sequels and rescheduling of three Star Wars movies. Variety report that the next three Avatar movies will respectively be delayed a year each, with a fifth film making it to screens sometime in 2031.

Meanwhile, a new untitled Star Wars film pegged for December 2026 has pushed back an additional untitled Star Wars film from December 2025 to May 2026. The delay means two new instalments will now be released in 2026.

This will be followed up by another trip to a galaxy far, far away in 2027, when another untitled Star Wars film is scheduled for release in December. Disney is yet to confirm further details on all three movies.

Production delays has been given as the reason behind release date delays. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the Writers' Guild of America strike was behind the recent filming hiatus on upcoming Marvel movie Blade. The vampire thriller starring Mahershala Ali was originally set to begin production in Atlanta this month.

Marvel's Thunderbolts (now expected in 2025) also halted production last month. It was originally planned to begin filming this summer.

Whilst the delayed release dates will be somewhat of a blow for Marvel fans, those looking forward to a future trip to Pandora are instead set to benefit.

It's understood that the extra time in-between the Avatar sequels will allow and incorporate new development in visual effects which can only improve the film's aesthetic and experience.

Captain America: Brave New World will be released on August 26, 2024. Meanwhile, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is streaming exclusively on Disney+.
