Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu has landed his next role in a new sci-fi thriller series from Peacock.

The scripted original from Peacock has enlisted the Marvel star for the new project, which has been handed a straight-to-series order (via TVLine).

Aquaman director James Wan will serve as executive producer on the untitled series, which is set in the near future.

"Five minutes in the future, a first-generation-American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale (Simu Liu) realises his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears.

"Caught between his shadowy agency and the unknown hackers, he must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who’s responsible and prove where his allegiance lies," reads the official synopsis.

Last year, Barbie star Liu opened up about the sequel to his Marvel movie Shang-Chi, telling fans that Ten Rings 2 isn't any closer to happening.

The 2021 movie saw Liu star as Marvel's first Chinese superhero alongside Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, Tony Leung and Meng'er Zhang.

Speaking about the sequel on Threads, Liu said: "Was told it would follow [Avengers: The Kang Dynasty] but that keeps pushing back due to circumstances beyond my control :( hope to have more concrete news to share soon."

Liu previously spoke about his hopes for the sequel, telling Complex Canada: "I think just what Shaun decides to do with all this newfound power, you know? It kind of consumed his father, consumed Wenwu.

"I'm curious as to how someone much younger, much more inexperienced, would fare against the rings. Just this idea of all of a sudden being gifted something that's so powerful but also so dangerous.

"And then the other big question I have is, you know, in what way does Shaun fit in with the rest of the MCU? Who are you going to see? What kind of crazy team-ups? What kinda tie-ins, Easter eggs?"
