Marvel stars team up for new sports series Winning Time as trailer debuts

Stars from several Marvel Cinematic Universe shows and movies hit the basketball court in the trailer for upcoming sports drama series Winning Time.
Subtitled The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, the upcoming show chronicles the heights of the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers during their 1980s rivalry with the Boston Celtics.
Among the cast members playing major players from the era include Guardians of the Galaxy's Nova Corps leader John C Reilly as Lakers team owner, Marvel's Runaways actor DeVaughn Nixon as the team's star point guard Norm Nixon, and The Defenders' Rob Morgan as the legendary Magic Johnson's father Earvin Sr.
Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is the story of giant egos, incredible athleticism and Hollywood glamour combining for an era of professional basketball that will never be seen again.
Don't Look Up's Adam McKay has adapted the series for TV from Sports Illustrated journalist and New York Times Bestselling Author Jeff Pearlman's book Showtime.
The show's incredible ensemble cast includes Terminator Genisys star Jason Clarke as the Lakers' GM, Peaky Blinders' Adrien Brody and The Muppets' Jason Segel as their coaches Pat Riley and Paul Westhead, and Bosch's Spencer Garrett as beloved commentator Chick Hearn.
As for the all-star squad of Lakers, newcomers Quincy Isaiah and Solomon Hughes landed the coveted roles as Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, plus Sean Patrick Small in his first major role as Boston Celtics forward (and chief Lakers rival) Larry Bird.
The Lakers' games in the 1980s attracted celebrities every night, so they'll be part of this story too – Paula Abdul (Carina Conti) was a Lakers cheerleader, and both Jack Nicholson (Max E Williams) and Richard Pryor (Mike Epps) were regularly courtside.
Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty will premiere its 10 episodes in March 2022 on HBO Max.
