Spoiler alert! If you’re not caught up on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel through Season 2, now would be a great time to handle that. Because Amazon Prime has just dropped Season 3… and it picks up the drama right where last season ended on a note of high suspense.

To recap last season (stop reading if you haven’t seen season 2) Miriam “Midge” Maisel who is played by Rachel Brosnahan was engaged to a doctor — but nevertheless has hooked up with her estranged husband. And, oh yes, it gets good. The new season opens with the title character staring up at the ceiling with her naked hubby next to her. Next, we flash forward and see her performing for the troops at a USO show.

Later, she gets into a conversation with her husband — in which it becomes clear that she is the one who merely wanted a one night stand, and nothing more.

“You made it very clear,” he tells her. “One night only.” He checks to see if she’s changed her mind, and, well… let’s just say now would be an excellent time to make sure you’re all caught up on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel so you can dive into all the juicy Season 3 drama!

While Brosnahan may be promoting her character’s new season, off-screen she’s also been doing the work of putting Midge in context. Earlier this year, she defended her character against fans who complained she valued her career over her children — making the character “less likable” and look like “a terrible mom.”

For her part, Brosnahan didn’t disagree — but she urged fair play in evaluating the nuances. “Absolutely. I’m not sure I would go as far as terrible, however she’s certainly not winning ‘parent of the year,’” she wrote on Twitter. “But it also doesn’t change the fact that this was not one of the primary criticisms of Don Draper or Walter White who were similarly, single-mindedly ambitious.”
