Zawe Ashton has revealed that she asked her fiancé Tom Hiddleston for MCU advice before joining The Marvels.
The Handmaid's Tale star will make her first appearance in the MCU in the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel, in a gender-swapped adaptation of the Kree revolutionary Dar-Benn.
Her partner, Tom Hiddleston, has quite a bit of experience in the Marvel Universe, as he's played both heroic and villainous variants of the Asgardian trickster god Loki.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zawe explained how Hiddleston offered her "very good" advice when she was preparing for the role.
"It led to some incredible conversations about his experience being part of this franchise for over a decade," she explained.
Aside from some humorous costuming suggestions to get "enough zippers to go to the bathroom", the Loki star also encouraged his fiancée to invest in the comics character fully.
"One of the main takeaways from our conversations was 'what you put into Marvel, you get back'," she recalled.
"He said: 'If you go into this with an open heart and a great work ethic and just want to provide an amazing experience for the fans, you'll have an amazing experience on those sets.' He really empowered me in that way."
Hiddleston confirmed the couple got engaged last summer, saying he was "very happy" following the huge relationship milestone.
In The Marvels, Zawe will be facing off with three of the most powerful heroes in the MCU — Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris's Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani's Ms Marvel — as she attempts to wield the Accuser hammer of the Kree people.
The Marvels has a release date of November 10, 2023. Captain Marvel is streaming on Disney+ and available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download.
