The Marvels has released another action-packed trailer, this time giving fans a closer at former Doctor Who star Zawe Ashton as a new MCU villain.

The footage, which arrived on Friday (July 21), teased the gender-swapped Marvel character Dar-Benn (Ashton) clashing with three of the most powerful heroes in the MCUCaptain Marvel (Brie Larson), Miss Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris).

The trio of heroes are brought together when their powers start to somehow intermingle, causing them to teleport into each other's lives at the most inconvenient times.

Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel and Monica Rambeau are forced to team-up as they attempt to understand why they keep swapping places while Dar-Benn takes vengeance on behalf of the Kree people.

The villainous character, who wields the Accuser's hammer, is like many Marvel antagonists in that she's not entirely evil — her aim is to reunite the Kree race after a devastating civil war.

However, one thing from the new trailer is clear, Dar-Benn has a fierce vendetta against Captain Marvel as she's heard saying: "You took everything from me and now I'm returning the favour."

The movie also features the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, following on from the events of the current Disney+ series Secret Invasion.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has promised fans have a lot to be excited for, as he compared the superhero team-up movie to The Avengers.

"There's something immensely powerful about seeing Monica and Kamala and Carol together in a frame," he began.

"To me, it's only akin to the first Avengers movie and seeing the six of them together in a frame. It's chill-inducing. They're so great together, and they all have different histories with another."

Larson has also spoken about the physical demands of playing Captain Marvel again, explaining that she wanted to train much differently than she did for the first film.

"I wasn't gonna try to break my deadlifting record or hip thrust record," she told Insider. "To me, it felt like I had done that. I wanted to focus on new challenges."

The Marvels has a release date of November 10, 2023. Captain Marvel is streaming on Disney+ and available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download.
