Marvin Harrison Jr. becomes Ohio State football's first unanimous All-American receiver

Marvin Harrison Jr. is Ohio State’s first-ever unanimous All-American wide receiver.

Harrison earned the distinction on Wednesday after he was named a first-team All-America selection by the America Football Coaches Association.

He had previously been selected to first-teams by the Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News and Walter Camp Foundation, the other four major lists recognized by the NCAA for determining consensus and unanimous statuses.

Harrison had joined Terry Glenn and Cris Carter earlier this week as only the Buckeyes’ third consensus All-American wideout. Neither Glenn nor Carter reached unanimous status when they were honored in 1995 and 1986, respectively. The only other receivers from Ohio State to land on one of the first-teams were David Boston in 1998 and Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson last season.

Wyatt Davis, a former right guard for the Buckeyes, was their last player at any position to receive unanimous All-America honors, doing so in 2020.

A hamstring injury suffered by Jaxon Smith-Njigba in a season-opening win over Notre Dame, limiting him for most of the fall, left Harrison as the top receiving option for quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Emerging as Stroud’s top target, Harrison caught 72 passes for 1,157 yards and 12 touchdowns and was also selected as a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award as the most outstanding receiver in the nation, the first for the program since Glenn won 27 years ago. Tennessee’s Jalin Hyatt was the ultimate winner.

Joining Harrison on the AFCA's first-team on Wednesday was left tackle Paris Johnson, who added consensus All-America honors. Stroud was also included on the second-team.
