Mary S. Biesecker Library is offering special fall programs

SOMERSET ― The Mary S. Biesecker Public Library, 230 S Rosina Ave., is announcing some new events taking place this fall at the library.

The library is hosting “That’s a Jam!” Sept. 30, an outdoor community music jam session from 2-4 p.m. in the parking lot under the new solar canopy (the rain location is the library basement in case of inclement weather). Participants can learn from local jammers the art of the jam. All ages and skill levels are welcome to bring instruments to join in and/or stop by to listen.

Local musicians who will be participating include Cindy Ross (guitar), Mike Kinsella (drum set), Tim Witt (percussion), John Larimer (guitar and dobro), Mark May (guitar), Morgan Simmons (upright bass) and Mark Spiker (electric bass).

A set list will be available ahead of time to anyone who RSVP’s at music-jam.maryslibrary.com. Participants can let the library know they're coming to receive music in advance, or just show up. Laurel Arts will be providing the sound system for the event and funding from the PPA Partner and Pennsylvania Council on the Arts to help cover expenses.

This event will feature rhymes, toys and stories to keep the little ones engaged and entertained in a safe, friendly environment. No registration is required.

The second new story event, Preschool STEM Story Time, starts on Oct. 17. This event offers stories and fun, informative STEM activities for kids in pre-K and kindergarten at 3 p.m. Tuesdays.
