Mary T. Dempsey, an office administrator who enjoyed summer beach vacations, died Jan. 15 of cardiovascular disease at Oak Crest Village in Parkville. The former Timonium resident was 92.
The former Mary Teresa Coughlin, daughter of Patrick J. Coughlin Sr., a Black & Decker factory worker, and his wife, Agnes Garrigan Coughlin, a homemaker, was born in Baltimore and raised in Govans, where she attended St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church and its parish school.
She was a 1946 graduate of Seton High School and four years later married William J. “Bill” Dempsey, a jewelry salesperson. They settled in Loch Raven Village, where they raised their four sons.
In the mid-1960s, Mrs. Dempsey went to work at Allstate Insurance and then joined the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, where she worked in medical billing. She subsequently joined a private medical practice and managed medical billing until retiring in 1995.
Mrs. Dempsey looked forward to family summer vacations at Cape May Point, New Jersey, and at Fenwick Island, Delaware.
Her husband died in 1986, and in 2003 she moved from Timonium to the Parkville retirement community.
She was a former active communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Baynesville.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Jan. 23 at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Towson.
She is survived by four sons, William J. Dempsey Jr. of Lafayette, California, Robert J. Dempsey and Brian G. Dempsey, both of Towson, and Stephen M. Dempsey of Baltimore; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
