Maryanne Trump Barry, a former federal judge and former President Donald Trump’s eldest sister, has died at 86 years old, according to multiple reports.

Barry died in her home in Manhattan. Officers were called to her apartment on Monday morning, and her cause of death has not been publicly confirmed.

Born in Queens, New York, she was appointed by former President Ronald Reagan to serve on the Federal District Court in New Jersey in 1983. Barry was later nominated by former President Bill Clinton to the 3rd Court of Appeals. Barry served as a federal prosecutor before her tenure as a judge.

She retired in 2019 as she faced a misconduct inquiry over reports she participated in a scheme to avoid taxes.

Barry also made headlines in 2020 as Mary Trump, her niece, released a tell-all book about Donald Trump. Mary Trump recorded 15 hours of her talks with Barry in 2018 and 2019, and in the audio she calls her brother a “brat” and a “liar,” along with claiming "He has no principles. None."

But the former president has long addressed their political disagreements. Trump in 2016 said “We do have different views a little bit,” but he added that “She's a very, very highly respected judge.”

And the former president and his sister were on better terms recently, ABC News reported. They saw each other over the summer at Trump’s Bedminster, New Jersey club.

Barry, a widow of attorney John Barry, had one son, David William Desmond.
