Maryland Dog Becomes a Hero After Warning Family of House Fire

In Maryland, a small dog became a hero thanks to his life-saving deeds.

On Aug. 15, a fire broke out in a family's home in Frederick County, Maryland in the early morning hours.

The family members were sleeping as the fire spread, but thanks to their dog's actions, they were able to get out of the house in time.

As reported by ABC7 WJLA, the dog, a cairn terrier named Bear, noticed the fire and continually barked to wake up his owners.

Once they woke up, the two family members and Bear successfully got outside and called 911 for emergency services.

The family called 911 around 4 AM, and it took an hour to get the fire down and under control. Between 50 and 60 firefighters arrived to extinguish the blaze.

The home was completely destroyed by the fire, but thanks to Bear, no one was hurt, as officials are currently working to determine the cause of the flames.

Late last month, another house pet, a cat named Bandit, also helped save her owner from an emergency.

According to the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, in the early morning of July 24, Bandit's owner, Fred Everitt, woke up to Bandit "letting out loud guttural meows" in his kitchen.

She then ran to Everitt's bedroom, jumped on him and began clawing at his comforter and arms. As Bandit never acted that way before, Everitt sensed that something was off.

He got up and walked to the kitchen. When he turned on the light, he was shocked to see two men at his back door trying to get in.

According to the report, "one was holding a handgun while the other used a crowbar to try and pry the door open." Spooked at seeing Everitt and Bandit, the two men ran off.

Everitt believes that Bandit saved his life that day, telling the publication, "It did not turn into a confrontational situation, thank goodness. But I think it's only because of the cat."

Like Bandit the cat, Bear the dog's alert-behavior helped save his family from a life-threatening situation.
