Maryland Gov. Wes Moore tweeted a clip of himself shooting hoops Thursday, and challenged Virginia counterpart Glenn Youngkin to a showdown.

“Let’s go one on one, winner gets the new FBI headquarters,” wrote Moore, a Democrat.

“Game on,” responded Youngkin, who posted a clip of himself sinking a 3-point shot.

Virginia’s Republican governor was captain of the Norfolk Academy basketball team when it won a state championship in 1985, then played at Rice University in Houston.

The friendly challenge comes as the states are vying to host the new FBI headquarters, which will be relocated from the J. Edgar Hoover Building in Washington. Youngkin — as well as Virginia U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine — made their final pitches Thursday to the General Services Administration in the capital.

“For proximity to important intelligence facilities, mass transit, and a diverse workforce — there’s no better choice for the new FBI headquarters than Virginia,” Warner tweeted Wednesday. “I’ll keep fighting for this on behalf of our Intel Community and Virginians.”

At a news conference last month, Youngkin said the FBI should join companies like Amazon and Boeing and select Virginia as its new home.

“We have a robust infrastructure, we have business ready sites, we have a world-class education system and a vibrant and diverse workforce,” he said.

If Virginia is selected, the headquarters would be based in Springfield. Maryland is advocating for the FBI to move to one of two sites in Prince George’s County — Greenbelt or Landover. All three sites are in the suburbs of Washington.
