Maryland Homes Evacuated After Downed Tree Hits Power Lines Following Night of Storms

Several homes were evacuated in Takoma Park, Maryland, after a downed tree sparked an electrical fire on July 2, following a night of storms, local media reported.

Montgomery County (MD) Fire & Rescue Service Chief Spokesman Pete Piringer said the homes were evacuated after the large tree pulled down electrical wire causing a small electrical fire.

Video shared by Piringer shows the fallen tree lying across the road.

The National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning for the area on July 1, but later warned of winds of up to 60 mph, before confirming “the worst of the storms have passed.” Credit: Pete Piringer via Storyful
