Maryland man killed on Pennsylvania Turnpike rollover crash in Allegheny County

A Maryland man was killed after being ejected from his vehicle in a rollover crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Monday.

Ashfaq Ahmed, 58, of Suitland, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which took place around 4:20 p.m. in Pine Township, Allegheny County, according to state police in Gibsonia.

Ahmed was traveling in the westbound lanes of Interstate 76 at Mile Marker 31.1, right before toll booth E-Z Pass scanners. His Jeep left its lane, forcing another vehicle into concrete barriers on the right side of the westbound lanes, according to a report. Ahmed’s Jeep then crossed back and struck the concrete barriers on the left side of the westbound lanes.

The impact caused Ahmed’s Jeep to roll over multiple times before it came to rest on its roof.

Ahmed was ejected out of the driver side window, according to the report. State police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The two occupants of the second vehicle were not injured.

State police are investigating.
