Maryland man pleads guilty to fatal shooting in Northeast DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A man from Maryland pleaded guilty Tuesday to the November 2023 murder of a man in Northeast, D.C.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) said that Andre Hicks, 40, of Capitol Heights, Md., approached 1705 Benning Rd. NE at about 9:10 p.m. on Nov. 25, 2023. There, Daniel Adams, 34, of Southeast D.C., was standing outside.

After walking up to a group of people outside, Hicks stood for a moment by the front door and looked back at Adams. He pulled out a gun and held it to his side, out of Adams’s view. Hicks then walked back toward where he was standing.

Once he was a few feet away, Hicks pointed his gun at Adams and fired at him several times, according to the USAO.

He continued firing as Adams ran away before running away.

Responders took Adams to a nearby hospital, where he died the next day.

Hicks’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 3, 2024.
