Late Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller to lie in state in Annapolis

Maryland Senate President Emeritus Thomas V. Mike Miller, who died Friday, will lie in state in the rotunda of the State House on Thursday and Friday.

Miller, a commanding leader of the Senate for more than three decades before retiring in December, died at his home in Calvert County. He had served nearly 50 years in the Senate and House of Delegates, championing Democratic causes and his home district in Prince George’s County and Southern Maryland.

On Thursday, Miller’s body will be escorted from Lee Funeral Home in Clinton to the State House by Maryland State Police troopers who had served on his protective detail. On the way, the procession will pass by places important to Miller, including his law offices and local fire departments.

Miller will lie in state Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with visitation reserved for his family. He also will lie in state Friday, with visitation by appointment only for invited guests from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The visitation will be streamed online.

A private funeral Mass is planned for Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Church in Clinton,which will be streamed on the church’s Facebook page. A private interment is planned.

Miller’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Calvert Health Center Foundation, the Dunkirk Fire Department, the Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. Center for Leadership at the College of Southern Maryland, or the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s Thomas V. Mike Miller Education Fund.
